Component Frameworks for Problem Solving Environments in Computational Science

چکیده
We describe some persistant problems in software infrastructure encountered by scientists and engineers working in application domains requiring extensive computer simulation and modeling. These problems may be mitigated by use of a Problem Solving Environment. We argue that such a Problem Solving Environment can best be implemented using a component-based approach.

A novel computational procedure based on league championship algorithm for solving an inverse heat conduction problem
Inverse heat conduction problems, which are one of the most important groups of problems, are often ill-posed and complicated problems, and their optimization process has lots of local extrema. This paper provides a novel computational procedure based on finite differences method and league championship algorithm to solve a one-dimensional inverse heat conduction problem. At the beginning, we u...
متن کاملFeatures of Problem Solving Environments for Computational Science
We describe some persistent software infrastructure problems encountered by scientists and engineers who work in application domains requiring extensive computer simulation and modeling. These problems may be mitigated by use of a Problem Solving Environment (PSE), but not all of them are currently being addressed by the PSE research community. We then discuss an approach to designing a toolkit...
متن کاملERDC MSRC/PET TR/00-27 Portals for Web Based Education and Computational Science
We discuss the characteristics of portals defined as web-based interfaces to applications. In particular we focus on portals for either education or computing which we assume will be based on technologies developed for areas such as e-commerce and the large Enterprise Information Portal market. Interoperable portals should be based on interface standards, which are essentially hierarchical fram...
متن کاملProblem Solving Environments for Partial Differential Equation Based Applications (Ph.D. Thesis)
Problem solving environments represent the next generation of scientific computing software. This thesis deals with four aspects of building problem solving environments for partial differential equation based applications: software architecture of development frameworks, high level languages, computational intelligence, and integrating experimentation and computation. The software infrastructu...
